About me.
Sheryl Maupin, MA, LMHC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Indiana. I am also a mom who loves plants and reading so much that I call myself a book dragon. In 2023, I was awarded a grant for a Little Free Library called the Free Little Doodle Library where I promote literacy for the kiddos in my neighborhood. I enjoy music and art, especially adult coloring books and painting. And I have two tabico cats (Queenie and Feather) and one mini chocolate-brown goldendoodle named Bilbo Waggins. I am also a Swiftie but you don't have to be!

My Background
Education
I attended Ball State University and earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology before I earned my Master of Arts in Rehabilitation and Clinical Mental Health. This education allowed me to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. During this time, I served as a non-denominational chaplain at the local hospital and taught public speaking at BSU.
Work Experience
Before I attended college, I managed a private practice in massage therapy where I specialized in pain and stress management. I worked along side a mental health counselor who inspired me to go to school for therapy. As an LMHC, I have worked in many settings including at a hospital, a community mental health center, an integrated care center specializing in gender-affirming care, and group private practice.
Today
I started Brave Enough, LLC with the intention of creating a safe space for my clients and colleagues to connect and collaborate. In the future, I hope that each human I meet with feels more brave to pursue their dreams and live with authenticity.
Approaches
Below you will find general summaries of my approaches. Fundamentally, I believe in approaches that overlap and interconnect. I work from a bio-psychosocial, person-centered, feminist, and existential point of view. More simply, I see each domain of your life as important and interconnected. I do my best to stay up to date with current social/cultural issues and incorporate numerous interventions that fit your personal needs.

Parenting Strategies & Play Therapy
Parenting strategies are a passion of mine. Some of my favorite interventions are co-regulation, teaching basic emotions and distress tolerance, 1-2-3 Magic, and growth mindset techniques. I use roleplaying to teach caregivers how to regulate, connect, and redirect big emotions in our littlest kiddos. I also enjoy teaching kiddos how to do better in school.

LGBTQIA+ and Women's Issues
I have conversations with children and adults related to sexual health and identity, but I also provide referrals to hormone replacement therapies for menopause treatment and gender-affirming interventions. I have worked extensively with medical providers to support trans-humans and new mothers. Creating a safe space for all bodies is a priority for Brave Enough. I also have experience with birth trauma, post-partum depression and anxiety, and mom guilt.

Cognitive Behavioral & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
CBT and DBT are two evidence-based approaches that work with various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, borderline traits, emotional dysregulation, and chronic mental health issues. You will see I combine these interventions with solution-focused strategies as well with the goal of lasting change.
